The list is impressive, but even more impressive is the fact that 90% of the work listed below was done by one of the top professionals in the RV field named Mr. S.  If you’ve ever owned an RV you know that good, accurate, and honest service is hard to find.  People come from all over the west to get work from this man.  He’s a mobile tech and works out of the north Phoenix area.  His work is meticulous, beautiful, even elegant!   He has worked on this coach since we purchased it in July, 2010.

We just had the rig inspected by two great mechanics and everything looked good.

2003 Monaco Dynasty
Regal floorplan

3 slides, 2 opposing living room slides and one bedroom slide.  A new hydraulic ram was installed about 5 years ago and a new hydraulic slide motor solenoid was installed last year.  Underneath the large living room slide we mounted steel plates as a preventative measure since Monaco slides were displaying some problems in that area.  The bedroom slide is electric.

Extensive documentation and all service records from 2010

We have official books on the Cummins ISL engine and Allison 6 speed transmission.  We also have the original Monaco binder containing all the mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and framing schematics for the entire coach.  (Close to 100 pages).  We have extensive documentation for many of the other systems in the coach as well as all the service records from 2010 to the present and few service records from the first owner.  Also,we have the original build sheet and various brochures from Monaco detailing all the features of the 2003 Monaco Dynasty as well as a DVD on just the frame.

400 hp Cummins engine. ISL.  116,350 miles

The engine and chassis have been serviced by Cummins or other professionals every year.  We average about 5000 miles/year on the coach.  This is a 400 hp engine.  This engine is very reliable!  In 9 years we only had one issue with a water pump that slowed us down for a few hours, otherwise completely dependable....a real workhorse!  We have records for everything ever done on the coach.

In 2010 we had a custom built charge air cooler installed that truckers use and is rated for 1 million miles.  Also, in 2018, we had the transmission removed, flushed, and pressure checked and given 2 thumbs up.  These repairs keep the engine running at a comfortable 180 degrees.  On a 90 degree day going up a 6% grade the temps may rise to 200 degrees.  I haven’t seen it go beyond that.

The engine odometer reads 116,350 miles.  At about 95,000 miles a Cummins tech told me she (the engine) was just about broken in.  Had the valves adjusted in 2016 and that boosted performance and fuel mileage.  This is a million mile engine.  Sales people often sell diesel RVs the way they do cars, saying the fewer miles on the engine the better.  That’s backward.  When we looked to buy a used rig we looked for one with more miles rather than fewer.  Diesel engines like to be worked and used regularly.  A Diesel engine that has not been used regularly tends to have more maintenance issues.

Allison 6 speed transmission

Reliable performance, but sometimes there’s a hard shift.  I would have it serviced within a year of buying the coach.  We had it serviced about 30,000 miles ago.  Also, I feel that it waits too long to down shift, especially going up hill, and I would inquire about any computer updates that might rectify that problem.

10K Onan generator with 686 hours

The 10K generator has also been serviced every year by Cummins and run at least once a month.  With this generator you can run a couple of ACs and the microwave and more at the same time!

Aquahot

Aqua Hot system, 100-02S.  When you are plugged in, the coolant tank and the furnace run on 110V and provide hot water and furnace heat.  When you are off the grid, the system runs on diesel from the fuel tank.  When left on, this system can provide constant, on-demand hot water and endless heat via the furnace.  This has been serviced at least once/year.

While driving, the coolant from the engine circulates throughout the Aquahot reservoir and heats it up, so that there is hot water and furnace heat available upon arriving at your destination.

The owners manual and the service manual are available as PDFs from Aquahot. I have the tools to do a basic service.

Building the Aluminum Frame

The aluminum frame holding the solar panels was carefully designed and installed with safety and strength as the major considerations.  The Monaco roof has 1/8” fiberglass on top of 3/4” marine grade plywood.  We used 1/8” angled aluminum “feet” to secure the structure and 5/8” screws.  That means that the screw only went 4/8” into the fiberglass and roof which means it only went 3/8” or half way into the wood.  The feet and the drill holes were filled with 3M 4200 bonding and sealing agent and left to dry for 2 weeks (in good weather) before the first coat of self leveling Dicor lap sealant was applied.  I inspect and reapply new Dicor as needed every year.  The structure only raised the overall height of the MH by 6”, from 12’ 3” to 12’ 9”.

Leveling

This rig has both air leveling and hydraulic jacks leveling.  Pressure treated Marine grade wood blocks provide a stable base for the hydraulic jacks and the orange leveling blocks go under the tires to provide some initial leveling for very uneven surfaces.  All included.  Note:  The air level system loses air in the front left.  Also, there are 2 small hydraulic leaks from the hoses not the connections.  I check the hydraulic fluid levels twice/year (with all slides in) and need to add fluid perhaps once/year.

Tires

The tires are all Michelin XZA2s size, 295/80R/22.5.They cost close to $700/each.  I usually buy 2 new tires, the new ones always go on the front, the oldest on the tag axle.  You won’t need to buy tires for 4-5 years with one exception.  One tag axle tire is from Jan, 2010.  I run the tax axle tires 9-10 years because they are carrying less than half their max load which is 7800 lbs.  However, that tire should be replaced.  Also, there are 8 Adco tire covers that are both good looking and functional.  I’m rather obsessive about keeping the tires covered to avoid side blowouts.  Side blowouts are the ones that cause the most mayhem and death.

DOT tire date codes

Driver Front 9/17 Passenger Front 1/17

Driver dual 1/17 Passenger dual 3/17
Driver Inside dual 1/17 Passenger inside dual 1/17

Driver tag 7/15 q Passenger tag 1/10

Solar and battery monitoring

On the roof are five LG 315 watt solar panels totaling 1575 watts,  The wires run to 2 junction boxes, then down to 2 Morningstar controllers (located under the bedroom sink) that are smart-hubbed together and connected to the TriStar remote meter in the hallway.  These panels are raised on an aluminum frame to avoid any shade issues caused by items on the roof.   All fittings connected to the roof were bonded and sealed with 3M 4200 (an amazing product) and then covered with Dicor self-leveling lap sealant that is checked regularly.  This was just done again in October, 2019.  Strong and leak proof!!!  THESE PANELS TILT up to 40 degrees.

While building the aluminum frame for the panels, I created 80 sq ft of storage under the panels by putting an aluminum slat floor under 2 of the frames.  I then bought some car-top waterproof cargo bags and put light but bulky items in the bags under the panels such as camping gear and kayaking life jackets. There are 5 of these cargo bags if you want them.

A Magnum 2800 watt pure sine wave inverter installed in 2012.

A Bogart Engineering TM 2025 battery monitor that is connected to the house and chassis batteries so you always know the state of charge, how many amps you’re using, the charging voltage, and more.

An Intellect charge monitor in the engine compartment that allows the solar to charge both the house and chassis batteries at the same time when off the grid or when plugged into power.

The engine alternator also charges both the house and chassis batteries while driving.

Batteries

4 six-volt AGM batteries, each with 400 amp/hr to give a total of 800 amp/hr.  These batteries are 2 and 1/2 years old and have only been cycled down 50 times and never below 70% so they have hundreds of cycles left in them.

Towing

Complete Patriot Blue Ox tow system with brake controller, all you need to do is get a base plate on your car and you’re ready to hook up and tow.

TV

On the roof is an automatic, powered DirecTV dish with 3 LNBs that can accommodate the most advanced DirecTV DVR.  Push a button inside to coach to activate the dish.  It takes 3-4 minutes to find all 3 satellites.  Plug in your DirecTV DVR and you’re up and running.

Inside, mounted up front, is a 40” Samsung smart TV that is connected to the Monaco speaker system that runs through the ceiling in the coach.

150 Watt Samplex inverter with smart plug in the TV cabinet for off the grid options

All the media in the coach:  DirecTV, streaming music, the DVD, and the radio are controlled by a universal remote.

Internet

MIMO (multiple in multiple out) Internet system.  Insert your SIM card into the modem and you have a WAN that is hard wired throughout the coach as well as wireless with an Apple 5GHz Airport Express.  This system utilizes 2 RV shorty antennas, a modem, a Raspberry Pi, and a Cradlepoint router and broadcast over 5G with an Apple Airport Express.  See complete explanation below: (written by Mr. S).

The white device is the Apple 5GHz Airport Express.  Also show is the Impact audio interface for all media and the DVD player.  You will need to supply your own DirecTV box/DVR.

“Custom cellular and campground router setup including both omni-directional and directional exterior cellular and WiFi antennas.  These antennas support the latest LTE-A technology including MIMO (multiple-in multiple-out), and CA (carrier aggregation).  Works with Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and/or any other wired or wireless Internet available where you're camped!  You'll just need an activated SIM on your favorite carrier (with a data plan) for cellular Internet.”

Directional wifi antenna mounted on the rear roof of the coach.  Point the antenna at the wifi source, move one plug in the front cabinet,  choose a signal from the router menu, and you’re now connected as the Cradlepoint router takes care of the rest.

Directional cellular antenna set up on the roof that utilizes a flag pole for maximum height along with a Weeboost inside the coach for cellular data and phone maximizing.  I have never had to use this system and I have forgotten how to set it up because the Omni directional system is so good.  However, I can connect you with “The Man” who can teach you how to use it.

Paint and gelcoat

The outside of the rig gets professionally washed and waxed at least once/year.  The paint has some scratches and one gouge.  There is some checking on the black paint.  It still looks beautiful as you can see from pictures, but if you want a motor home that is perfect on the outside then this one is not for you.  The roof cap was repainted 2 years ago.

The light has been replaced

There is some gel coat and paint deterioration along the roof line of the coach.  You can’t see it from the ground.   I’ve used a 3M shield guard product (similar to what you see on the front of coaches only thinner) to mitigate some of that deterioration but it’s getting old too. I painted the roof white and added some grit to give you sure footing.  Wet fiberglass is very slippery!

As you can see in the next two pictures, the 3M shield guard is intact but cracked and pitted.  If I were to keep the coach I would put a bra on the front.

Most of the exterior looks great!

Except for a few places, most of the exterior is in very good condition.

Mirrors

The 3-way mirrors are fantastic.  When I bought the rig the chrome was separating from the metal.  I used aluminum tape as a temporary fix...which became a permanent “fix”.

Interior

Both sofas open up to provide more sleeping options

The toilet is a porcelain Dometic toilet with a marine style foot pump.  This allows you to control your water usage when off the grid.

Entry Way
The entry way is a bit “rough” and could use some work.  I couldn’t get that stain out.

Wood laminate floors were factory installed throughout the whole house except the back part of the bedroom.  There are a couple of spots where that are not perfectly level.  (They do not show up in pictures.). There are also a couple of spots where there is some separation but they are minor.

Signs of Wear and Use

The rugs and furniture are steam cleaned and the leather is cleaned and treated.  This just happened in early October.

There is substantial leather cracking on the driver and passenger seats though they still seem viable and comfortable.   The living room rug is in fair to good shape but the bedroom rug is fraying and has permanent wear patterns and should probably be replaced.  The cloth couch also shows signs of wear on the seating part.  The ozite lining in some of the shelves is stained and should either be replaced or cover over with a shelf liner.

That is not dirt or staining, those are wear patterns.  These rugs were steam cleaned 3 times in preparation for the sale.

And yes, unfortunately the discoloring below is a water stain and I cannot get it out.

3 ACs, each with a heat pump, ducted in the ceiling.

38 gallon propane tank.  X 4.2 pounds/gallon = 159.6 pounds of propane

A propane line has been installed for a propane heater for use when off the grid.  You’ll need to buy a heater (I suggest the Wave 8 heater).  The advantage of this is that 1) there is a large tank/reservoir of propane in the coach and 2) a propane heater uses zero electricity which is great when you are off the grid and need to manage your power usage.

Splendide 2100 washer/dryer combo on its own sub panel.  Replaced the motherboard 5 years ago and that was all it ever needed.  It’s slow but very thorough.

A Samsung RF 197 18 cu/ft residential refrigerator that has worked perfectly from the get-go.  Installed in Elkhart, IN.

4 extra 110 outlets have been added;  2 under the desk and 2 others (kitchen and bedroom) that are not on the inverter.

All the interior Cherry wood has been recently oiled, polished, and cleaned

Complete Magna Shade  wrap-around set for all the front windows

4 bike Yakima bike rack

All sewer hoses, water hoses, and various other liquids, fluids, and helpful items to get you started down the road.

Air compressor hose that works right off the coach air compressor.

The black and gray tanks have been professionally cleaned every 2 years.  The water tank and all the in-house water lines/systems gets cleansed with vinegar every couple of years as well.

Monaco made it impossible to access and clean the installed water pressure regulator, so I had to remove some of the plastic sheeting to access it.  I then removed it and bought one and installed it at the hose faucet where it should be.

2 years ago I siliconed 90% of the coach.  It shouldn’t have to be done for another 3 years but it should be checked regularly.

Fresh Dicor self-leveling lap sealant has been recently applied on the roof.

Spare water pump

Key less entry

All 48 halogen lights were replaced with LEDs.  The 7 fluorescent fixtures were also replace with LED strips.

Genturi stack to divert exhaust from the generator.  Adapters can be purchased for the Aquahot exhaust and the engine exhaust.  This is a stock photo.

It collapses down into a manageable bag.

Little Giant Ladder that hooks on the ladder

Instahot next to the kitchen faucet.  Can be run easily on solar to also provide hot water as needed.

Burgundy window shades and toppers that accent the colors on the coach.

We’ve been living full time in this rig for 9+ years. Because we live in it we try to keep everything working and up to date.  If something needs fixing we fix it because we live in it and it’s a pain when something is not working.

Current Issues

3M Shield Guard is deteriorating on the front
Gelcoat is oxidizing in a couple of areas
There are some scratches on the passenger side from operator error
2 of the 3 stove burners light with the piezoelectric, one needs to be hand lit.
The leather in the captain’s chair is worn but still comfy.
