Where is this Suites located?
It is located in northeast Phoenix near Fountain Hills, AZ, 85268
Why did we buy this unit?
We lived full time in a Monaco Dynasty for 9 years but I always liked the fit and finish of the Mobile Suites. Also, the newer 3500 trucks got quieter and smoother and was a sweet ride, so we made the transition from motor home to 5th wheel and never looked back. In fact, we wished we had switched sooner. The island kitchen, massive storage, 4 season insulation, the great TV set up; all of this made the feel of it much more like a real home. And having the engine separate from the house has many benefits.
If you buy this unit know that you are buying a full time home. It could also be used as a second home, a guest house, a pool house, etc.
Additionally, Thor bought DRV in 2015. In 2019 when we bought this rig we also looked at the 2015 and 2016 DRV models and were not impressed. (I couldn’t afford anything newer.) As soon as I looked at the 2014 models I knew I had found what I was looking for. And apparently DRV did a major overhaul and upgrade to the 2014 models late in the year and our Suites is one of those. Thus the .5)
DRV and Mobile Suites are 4 season coaches of very high quality. Below is a link to a brochure put out by DRV for the 2014 models. Although it does not specifically detail our particular Suites, it does give you an good idea of the quality of construction. Note the R - 16 insulation value of the walls. Very few RVs can boast this high a value. It is definitely a 4 season coach.

History of the rig
We are the third owners. The first owners had if for about a year and then traded it in for a larger unit at the main Kansas facility. The second owners bought it in Kansas and moved it to Maryland, put it in covered storage and barely used it. I bought it in Maryland and had it towed out to Phoenix. We moved into it on Oct. 1, 2019 and lived full time in it till Jan. 1, 2023. We would still be living in it if…
Why are we selling?
Cancer has struck our lives one too many times. We can’t venture far from the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix anymore. Our full-time traveling days are over so we bought a home in Fountain Hills.
Overall condition
This is a beautiful 5th wheel inside and out. The wood inside glows, all systems are working, it tows smoothly. All regular maintenance and many upgrades have been completed over the years. (More on this later.) And unlike many DRV models, you can access the bathroom and bedroom while traveling without opening the slide outs. This is a huge plus and one of the many factors in choosing this model.
The right truck is crucial
You will need at least a 350 or 3500 long bed dually to tow this. Do not attempt to tow any DRV without a long bed. The construction of the front cap on any DRV is such that it protrudes out a bit more than most 5th wheels and a medium or short bed truck will not be able to handle a sharp turn without causing damage. Dealers will not tell you this! We are also selling our truck which matches up to the Suites perfectly!
2019 RAM Longhorn 3500 long bed dually for sale
We are also selling our 2019 RAM 3500 dually long-bed, Longhorn. This is an amazing truck with all the bells and whistles and comes with a tonneau cover and a B/W companion 5th wheel hitch rated at 25K. The front tires have only 1,000 miles on them and the back tires were rated by Big O tires as being 1/2 worn.
With a 400 hp high output engine introduced in 2019, it can accelerate up a 5 degree incline pulling the Suites and keep going comfortably at 65 mph. Also, the Longhorn edition is a major step up in styling to the Laramie. Only 21,000 miles and only 3,000 miles towing. It’s a smooth and quiet ride!

38 RSSA is the perfect size and weight
At 39 feet overall with a GVWR of 20+K, this is the perfect size for mobile and full time living and pulling with 350/3500 sized truck. It’s spacious enough for full time living with massive storage huge front and side bays and 4 slides. Once you to 40 feet and more, it’s can be harder to fit into some CG spaces, and often a 450 or 4500 sized truck is needed.
EXTERIOR FEATURES

Solar SET-UP
There are six 180-watt LG panels on the roof for a total of 1260 watts that are tiltable. Yes, it’s a pain to get on the roof and tilt he panels, but if you orient the coach correctly while dry camping in the winter you can gain 35-40% more input than if you didn’t tilt.
This was taken in 2019, before the Heng’s roof treatment. You can see the additional rack mount on the bottom right.
Inside the bay, the heart of the system is the Victron 3000 Multiplus inverter which has worked flawlessly since it was installed. The Victron color display for information and settings is in a small inside cabinet with most of the other Suites controls. You can access this controller on-line from anywhere in the world and know how the system is operating. There’s also a Victron Solar Charge Controller.
The energy is stored in five 100amp hour Battleborn lithium ion batteries. These batteries have thousands of cycles left since we have not had the opportunity to dry camp for the last 2 years for medical reasons. FYI, all 500 amp/hrs are useable because the battery is actually 120 amp/hr with that last 20% making it idiot proof.
As part of the set up, a 50 amp plug was installed to accommodate a Honda 2200i generator which is set up to run on both propane and gas. (negotiated separately) When connected to the propane connector just outside the bay door, the generator plugs into the 50-20 amp adaptor and makes the whole set up very convenient. You won’t see a front bay 50 amp connector on any other rig and it can be very convenient! You can see it in the picture on the top left above the switches.
The whole system was installed by Techie-4-Hire who specialized in solar, TV, internet for RVs. Scott is now retired, but during his 10 years as a tech his reputation was such that RVers came from thousands of miles away just so he would do the work. He was that good. I was lucky enough to have him do all the work on this Suites and am lucky to call him my friend.
Roof
Custom frame mount large enough for surfboards, paddle boards or a storage box
Photo taken before the Hengs Roof treatment |
3 months ago I applied 2 layers Hengs roof treatment (after a thorough cleaning) that will secure the integrity of the roof for 7-10 years. It also covered the tops of the slides.
We installed a cargo railing on back part of roof to accomdate the omnidirectional cellular wifi. This connects to the Cradlepoint Router in an inside cabinet via a waterproof, marine-grade Ethernet thru port. Perhaps that thru-port could be reconfigured to work with Starlink?
Also on the roof is an automatic Directv dish. Push one button and the dish finds 3 satellites automatically. To enjoy Directv in the coach you simply connect your DRV to the coax cable and the TV and voila!
There’s also a portable Directv satellite dish with all the necessary set-up tools and satellite finder as part of the deal if you want it. We needed it because we were under a metal roof for 5 months last summer and the automatic dish was not an option.
In the large side bays
The tray slides out in both directions for ease of use.

The back chairs have been steam cleaned. Somehow the light reflection makes them look dirty. |
Back chairs swivel and rock. |
Theater seating manually reclines with a large storage box below the armrest. Entertainment System |
The 2019 49” Samsung Q70 TV was installed by Scott and is on a TV lift. It’s very pleasant, when living is a small space, to be able to disappear the TV and have the small window instead.
The TV is connected to a Sony AV receiver (in the cabinet above the TV) with Bluetooth and a 5.1 surround sound system with just OK speakers.
Living room Dometic AC/heat pump is only 18 mos old
Desk/dinette: There are 6 electric plugs under each sides of the dinette. Again, so many rigs are manufactured with no plugs under the dinette.
6 plugs on each side |
4 custom made artistic glass sconces
Whole house vacuum, very efficient
All interior ceiling lights are LED and most are on a dimmer for pleasant ambient lighting
Near new cloth theater seating with manual reclining with storage below the armrest
Cloth theater seating directly across from the TV. Cozy and comfy! |
Whole-house Wi-Fi network
The entertainment cabinet is hardwired by ethernet to a Cradlepoint router which connects to an omni directional cellular Wi-Fi setup installed on the roof. This is a ready-to-go whole house Wi-Fi network, all it needs to get going is a SIM card in the outside, waterproof router. The Ethernet cable from the router enters the coach by a marine grade thru-port, installed by Scott who also developed the outside router box. (FYI, Scott and his wife circumnavigated the globe in a 43’ sailboat so he knows marine thru-ports.) The inside cabinet is wired to work off of 12V and there’s a POE injector that modulates the power to the various components.
A Back up camera using a simple phone app is connected to the CP router and reaches the truck easily
